District 66 Families,

With the first month of school behind us, we are off to an awesome start in District 66! Students are feeling comfortable in their “new” classrooms and construction/renovations at Ide are moving forward. Looking ahead to the end of the month, I would like to invite all of our parents to attend an information session on the pending release of a new school report card at the end of the month.

Parents are invited to attend an information session on the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and the new Illinois School Report Card on Wednesday, October 17 at 6:00 p.m. in the Prairieview multipurpose room. The session will include an overview of the ESSA components and an opportunity for Q&A with the Superintendent and administrative team.

All Illinois public schools will receive their new “designation” from the Illinois State Board of Education on October 31, 2018. The new 2018 Illinois School Report Cards will include significant changes to the way schools are measured.  This is all part of a new statewide accountability and support system under ESSA.

The new report cards will focus more on student academic growth and high school graduation rates and less on standardized test scores. Specifically, the quality of schools will now be measured through multiple indicators of student success including standardized tests, alternative assessments, academic growth, English language proficiency, science scores, fine arts participation, graduation rates, chronic absenteeism, and school climate surveys.

I hope you are able to join us on October 17!

Sincerely,
Tim Arnold, Ph.D.
Superintendent

Social Emotional Learning Competencies

Self-awareness is the ability to:

  • identify one's emotions
  • maintain an accurate and positive self-concept
  • recognize individual strengths
  • experience a sense of self-efficacy

How can parents foster meaning and purpose in kids to assist in the development of self-awareness?  Research shows that self-awareness is critical to academic success, positive relationships, and happiness.  Click on this link for more information to the graphic provided below: How Parents Can Foster Meaning and Purpose in Kids.

Growth Mindset Our brains are like a muscle that grows! How can you help your child develop a growth mindset? Teach them that their brain is like a muscle. The more they use it the stronger it will be. Help your child develop their brains by challenging them to do things that aren’t easy, try things they have never done before, and encourage them when they don’t overcome an obstacle on the first try!

TEAM 66 Education Foundation News

TEAM 66 - Kelly Miller Circus
Thank you to our district families and community for helping the Team 66 Education Foundation kick off the 2018-19 school year with tremendous success. Due to all of your support and generosity, we sold out both shows of the Kelly Miller Circus and raised nearly $5,000. This year's performances thrilled the audience with exhilarating talent and fun for all ages. We hope to bring the circus back in years to come.

TEAM 66 Donation Shed at Prairieview
Based on the success of our annual Spring FunDrive with Savers, we are thrilled to announce our new year-long initiative that allows our district and community to drop-off their old treasures at any time throughout the year at our permanent Team 66 Donation shed located at Prairieview. Simply bag any of your unwanted clothing, shoes, belts, purses, CDs, DVDs, kitchen items, sheets, blankets, linens, and towels and drop them in the shed. There is a door/hatch on the side of the shed for easy access. All goods collected through our year-long FunDrive are sold to Savers and they, in turn, will pay Team 66 by the pound for qualifying donations. The shed is conveniently located on the sidewalk at the east side of the Prairieview building by the 3rd grade entrance and parking lot. Look at it as Spring Cleaning all year long to benefit Team 66.

Casino Night - Save the Date
Don't forget to save the date for our 2nd Annual Casino Night being held at the Loyal Order of the Moose on Saturday, March 2nd. This year's event will bring even more adult-only fun, food, and entertainment. Stay tuned for more details.

TEAM 66 Education Foundation
Lastly, we have noticed that many of our newer district families may not be aware of what the Team 66 Education Foundation does and who we are. Briefly, we would like to clarify what it is we do and the benefits of supporting the foundation. Team 66 benefits Center Cass School District 66 by providing teacher grants for educational programs and activities, which are not funded by the normal operating budget. These funds are used to facilitate student achievement and skill development, to recognize and encourage staff excellence, and to expand community involvement from individuals, businesses, and civic organizations. Money raised through various fundraising efforts helps fund innovative teaching grants that will provide resources directly to the classroom for teachers to implement exciting new educational programs. We invite you to visit our website, www.team66ef.org to learn about the programs we have funded over the years.
