Parent UniversityParent University
On Saturday, March 9, 2019, District 66 held its Second Annual Parent University. About fifty parents came out on Saturday morning to hear Adam Russo, LCSW, CEO and founder of Edgewood Clinical Services speak. Adam is the author of, Unwritten Rules:  Real Strategies to Parent Your Child into a Successful Adult.

Adam spoke about the importance of failure. He stressed to parents the importance of raising your children to be adaptive and independent adults. The presentation was well received and we are already planning for our Third Annual Parent University next year!

Social Emotional Learning and Growth Mindset
Spring is trying desperately to make an appearance and what better time than now to think about self-management and a growth mindset. Self-management is one’s ability to regulate emotions, manage stress, utilize self-control, be self-motivated, and set and achieve goals. Do you or your child(ren) struggle with self-management? Have you talked to your child(ren) about self-management? Spring is a great opportunity to do just this!

As Carol Dweck says, “The path to growth mindset is a journey, not a proclamation”. Embrace the opportunity and focus on self-management this month. What is it our inner voice has been talking to us about? Losing weight, reading more, turning off electronics more?  Talk to your child(ren) and as a family make a commitment to focus on self-management together!

Change in Lakeview Athletic Seasons:
Important message for incoming 6th graders and current Lakeview students

At the start of the 2019-20 school year, the SDEAA will align to the current IESA calendar. Please see the document: 2019-2020 SDEAA IESA Alignment to better gauge when each specific season will take place. Tryout dates and start times of each season are highlighted in yellow.

As a reminder, all students who tryout or participate on a Lakeview athletic team must have a current athletic physical form on file in the office before the day of tryouts. Athletic physicals are good for 395 days from the original date signed by a physician.

If you have any questions, please contact Beth Nyhlen, Lakeview Athletic Director, at enyhlen@ccsd66.org. This information can also be found on the Lakeview website under the Extra Curriculars tab.

School Closures Impact on Last Day of School and Graduation Day
For planning purposes, the last day of school should be considered to be June 6, 2019 (as noted on the 2018-2019 School Calendar). Thus far, we have used four of our designated emergency days. Each year the official last day of school and graduation date are determined by the Board of Education at the April board meeting.

Traditionally, Lakeview's graduation ceremony is held the evening before the last day of school. Families should plan on the graduation ceremony taking place on Tuesday, June 4 (if no more emergency days are used) or Wednesday, June 5 (if one or more emergency days are used). The latest possible day for graduation will be Wednesday, June 5.
