Lakeview Jr. High Virtual Graduation
A virtual Lakeview Graduation Ceremony will be live on our
website
on Wednesday, June 3, 2020, at 7:30 p.m. to celebrate our Lakeview Class of 2020. Although we would have preferred to celebrate through a live ceremony, we hope students and families will enjoy this virtual presentation. We are proud of these graduates and their perseverance through these unprecedented times! Best of luck Lakeview Jr. High School Class of 2020!
Student Highlights
History Fair Updates from Mr. Little:
Despite broad pandemic cancellations, the Chicago History Museum and supporting organizations continued to run their History Fair in a virtual format. This virtual format will continue from the state competition to the National History Day competition as well. All of our "student historians" did the necessary work to improve their projects and submit them for advancement, despite being remote and doing so through virtual instruction. If/when you see them, give 'em a virtual high 5 for their hard work. They represented Lakeview well and deserve praise for persevering during a difficult "season”. Special recognition to the three projects which advanced to the State History Fair. Congratulations Lakeview Student Historians!
Brian Bilby, Cooper Merrinette, Brodie Dobson - "Braille Code"
Amy Anderson - "Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire"
Troy Edie - "Effect of Space Race"
Brandon Lopez-Gervacio & Terrence Ross - "Jesse Owens"
Sean Noller - "Esports"
TJ Harvat - "Boeing"
State Qualifiers:
Joseph Dourdourekas - "JFK & Civil Rights Act"
Jasper Fortune, Filip Nemrava, Nedas Jotautas - "Tuskegee Airmen"
Juliana Conyer - "Ada Lovelace"
Lakeview Virtual Musical - “Once Upon A Mattress”
Lakeview Musical Director, Mrs. Rickert, was already well into rehearsals for our spring musical prior to our last day of attendance on March 13th. Despite the challenging circumstances due to the school closures, she continued to work with the students to create this virtual version of the spring musical production:
Once Upon a Mattress - The Virtual Musical
. Congratulations on a job well done!
“Little Library”/Food Pick-Up from Silver Award Girl Scouts
When Girl Scout Cadettes focus on an issue they care about, learn the facts, and take action to make a difference, they gain the confidence and skills that will catapult them to lifelong success. It all adds up to the Girl Scout Silver Award - the highest honor a Cadette can achieve.
Chloe Cerny is a member of Lakeview's 8th grade Cadette Girl Scout Troop who cares about Lakeview and the community. Those of you who know her know that she also loves to read. Several months ago she decided that Lakeview should have a Little Library so that everyone would be able to access books whenever they wanted. This was also a way she could share her love of reading. However, when Covid-19 hit and people lost their jobs she decided, for the time being, to turn the Little Library into a place where the community could access food, if needed, while not worrying about having to ask for help.
Chloe Cerny along with Girl Scout Troop 51480 members Alana Pangallo, Kelly McCarthy, Julianna Rivera, and Emily Makenas worked hard selling cookies to go to summer camp this year. When camp was canceled, the girls decided to use some of their troop money towards trying to keep the pantry stocked over the summer. As soon as school is back in session, the plan is to turn it back into a library.
