Dr. Tim ArnoldSuperintendent Message

District 66 Parents,

I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to our Safety & Security Discussion with the Superintendent on Saturday, March 10 from 11:30-1:00 p.m. at Prairieview School. This discussion is only open to parents of our current students. All attendees will be asked to sign-in prior to the meeting and provide their child's name and grade level.

As I've said many times before, District 66 maintains a continual focus on school safety and security. Ensuring the safety of our students and staff is the most important thing we do each day.

In light of the recent tragedy in Florida, we scheduled the School Safety and Security Discussion to immediately follow the previously scheduled Parent University on cyber-security for students (8:30-11:30 a.m.). I encourage you to attend both events that day, since there will be a theme of student safety and focus on social emotional learning for students and adults.

The purpose of the School Safety and Security discussion is twofold - to provide a high level view of the types of safety and security practices that are currently in place, as well as to listen to any concerns that might exist. The event will consist of a brief overview of the Safety and Security Assessment that the District recently completed, followed by a Q & A with the superintendent.

We anticipate that a number of parents will attend both of the events, which are back-to-back, so we will order pizza and soft drinks for a light lunch during the School Safety and Security Discussion.

Please complete this RSVP if you plan to attend the event.

We value your partnership in keeping our students and staff safe at school each day!

Tim Arnold, Ph.D.

District 66 Students Shine at 2018 Solo Festival

On Saturday, February 3, over 170 band students from grades 5 - 8 participated in the District 66 Solo Festival at Lakeview Jr. High School. As part of the band curriculum, all band students in grades 5 - 8 are required to prepare a solo to be performed and adjudicated by an independent judge. The purpose of the solo festival is to provide students with an opportunity to prepare and perform without the aid of the entire ensemble. Through this process, students learn many skills like time management, self discipline and reflection, advanced playing techniques, and certainly self confidence. The judges provide constructive criticism and rate the students on their performance. Students can receive a rating of Superior - Gold Medal and Star (perfect score), Excellent - Gold Medal, and Good - Silver Medal. The judges also selected individual students from each room as Best of the Day regardless of score.

Congratulations to all of the band students on their performances. Special recognition goes to the students who were selected as Best of the Day and those who earned a Superior Rating!
